GameOn: Amazon Gives-away Cross-platform APIs For Game Devs

Be it eCommerce, cloud services, or Artificial Intelligence, Amazon has its own way of revolutionizing things. Now, it’s time for the company to get to the Gaming Industry through its brand new service GameOn.

So, what has the new service for gamers across the world?

Cross-platform

Man-vs-Machine approach is now an outdated one. Gamers keep loving video and mobile games but they want it to a be man-vs-man kind of stuff. That actually works and one can learn it from the success of Clash of Clans. Many game publishers have already integrated APIs to create leaderboards and conduct competitions. But the problem here is, they are still platform-specific.

Amazon GameOn is a cross-platform game service that the APIs work for any operating system such as Windows and iOS. The director of competitive gaming at Amazon, Marja Koopmans said in an interview to CNBC:

When you play on a device, you can’t play with someone who’s on a different device. We want to break that boundary.”

Through the APIs Amazon, the publishers can make more gamers engage with their game. The service supports leaderboards, multi-round competitions, and leagues. The users themselves can create their own competitions. This also enables the publishers to organize local competitions associated with their games. Thus, Amazon is giving the gamers the real fun they strive for.

Real-world and in-game prize

The cup of gamers is only half-full and they want more. They challenge their friends, clear the rounds, and win prizes that they could actually use nowhere. What if they get real-world gifts for what they achieve in the game?

Amazon’s APIs make this true for the developers can integrate them into a game to reward their players with real-time gifts fulfilled by Amazon and digital in-game prizes too. Players can claim these gifts in just two button clicks, it’s that simple!

The developers can have the complete control over the type of the prize and its value. This is the first of its kind initiative ever taken by any company in the gaming industry.

Giveaways are not new for Amazon. The eCommerce giant knows well how to promote its new service and it is applying the same formula here too. As per its launch offer, game developers across the world can use the APIs on GameOn until May 1, 2018. Thereafter, Amazon provides a free service for the first 35000 plays in a month and anything above it would be charged just $0.003. And now, that’s really tempting!
